The Prestige Process: What Happens to Your Car During a Full Detail

You’ve booked your appointment. You’ve handed over the keys. Now your car disappears for a few hours — and when it comes back out, it looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor.

But what actually happens in between?
At Prestige Car Detailing, we believe transparency builds trust. So here’s a behind-the-scenes look at our full detail process — every step, in order, and why each one matters.

The Prestige Process: What Happens to Your Car During a Full Detail

Step 1: The Initial Inspection

Before we touch your car, we walk around it. Every panel. Every wheel well. Every seam.

We’re looking for existing scratches, paint chips, swirl marks, stains, and problem areas that need special attention. This assessment shapes everything that follows — it’s how we customize the service for your specific vehicle, not just run it through a generic checklist.

We also document the car’s condition before we start. This protects you and holds us accountable.

Step 2: Pre-Wash and Decontamination

This is where most amateur details go wrong — they skip straight to the wash. We don’t.

We begin with a pre-rinse and a foam cannon application to loosen surface dirt without touching the paint. Then we perform chemical decontamination: iron remover to dissolve brake dust and metallic fallout embedded in the clear coat, followed by a clay bar treatment to pull out any remaining bonded contaminants.

Only once the surface is truly clean do we move to the wash itself — a proper two-bucket hand wash using pH-neutral car shampoo and plush wash mitts that glide without scratching.

Step 3: Paint Inspection Under Lighting

After the wash, we bring the car under our specialized lighting to assess the paint depth. This is where we identify swirl marks, light scratches, oxidation, and water spots that are invisible under normal conditions.

This step determines whether paint correction is needed, and to what degree. A light enhancement polish is very different from a full two-stage correction — and your car’s paint deserves to be treated accordingly.

Step 4: Paint Correction (If Applicable)

If your vehicle requires paint correction, this is the most time-intensive part of the process. Using a dual-action or rotary polisher with progressively finer compounds and polishes, our technicians methodically work panel by panel, removing imperfections from the clear coat without taking away more than necessary.

Done right, paint correction can restore a car to better-than-new condition. Done wrong, it thins the clear coat and does permanent damage. Experience and patience make all the difference.

Step 5: Protection Application

A freshly corrected surface is vulnerable — it needs to be sealed immediately. Depending on your package, this could mean a quality carnauba wax, a synthetic paint sealant, or a professional-grade ceramic coating.

Ceramic coatings are our most popular protection option for luxury and exotic vehicles. Once cured, they form a semi-permanent bond with the paint that repels water, resists UV damage, and makes future cleaning dramatically easier. Application requires a perfectly clean, contamination-free surface — which is why every prior step is non-negotiable.

Step 6: Interior Detail

While the exterior protection is curing, we move inside. A full interior detail at Prestige includes:

  • Thorough vacuuming of all seats, carpets, floor mats, and trunk
  • Steam cleaning and extraction for deep-seated dirt and odors
  • Leather cleaning and conditioning (matched to your specific leather type)
  • Detailed cleaning of vents, buttons, screens, and trim
  • Glass cleaning inside and out for crystal-clear visibility

Step 7: Final Detail and Quality Check

Before we call it done, we do a final walk-around under full lighting. We look for missed spots, water streaks, fingerprints, or any area that doesn’t meet our standard. Dress the tires. Clean the exhaust tips. Wipe down the door jambs. Every contact point.

Only when the car passes our own inspection do we bring you in.

Why the Process Matters

There’s a reason a professional detail at Prestige looks different from a drive-through wash or a DIY effort at home. It’s not just the products — it’s the process. Every step exists for a reason, and skipping any of them compromises the result.

Your car is an investment. Whether it’s a daily driver you’re proud of or a six-figure exotic, it deserves to be treated with precision and care.

That’s what we do at Prestige Car Detailing — every single time.
